Overview of Muppet-Vision 3D in Hollywood Studios
This is fun for adults as well as kids. Though this attraction does not seem to be attempting to scare guests, we have occasionally seen it bring young children to tears. Still, most will consider this a gentle 3-D experience.
It’s a very cute 3-D tour of Muppet Labs where things go awry. The 3-D effects are really amazing. Sometimes it seems like things are flying right at you, which could be “jump out of your seat” startling. There are also live puppets, Audio-Animatronics, pyrotechnics and effects around the theater, including sensory effects.
Queue and pre-show for Muppet-Vision 3D
The queue is indoors, in a room where everyone crowds in and stands. There are overhead monitors with an entertaining 10 minutes of Muppets on multiple monitors. There’s an impressive effect where The Muppets actually seem to be moving from one monitor to the other.
While you’re in the pre-show area prior to the movie, take a look at all the props and accessories; especially read what’s printed or painted on the boxes. The floor area slopes down sharply. Lighting is dim in this area, though not dark, which allows for better viewing of the monitors.
Wheelchair and ECV users should make their way to the right side of the room for the handicapped waiting area and to enter the theater using the disabled entrance.
Seating for the show
The main show has theater-style seating that we find reasonably comfortable, but people of size may find the seats tight.
Those in wheelchairs/ECVs can stay in them, or transfer to a theater seat. The back row has cut-outs for wheelchairs and ECVs, separated by seats for at least one companion per wheelchair/ECV. If you stay in your wheelchair, you’ll still get some sensory effects, since most of them come from the seat in front of you. You’ll sometimes even get some bubbles drifting your way.
There are also two benches in the back row, near the corners of the Muppet 3D movie. It may be possible to escape many of the effects if seated on those benches.
Additional details about Muppet-Vision 3D
The 4-D effects include water spraying at the audience, bubbles floating down from above onto the audience and air blowing at face level. You must wear the 3-D glasses provided by Disney in order to get the 3-D effect.
The show features several Audio-Animatronics figures. At one point, a live actor in a Muppet costume comes out in front of the screen, just in front of the front row. He briefly interacts with the audience. The Muppet is Sweetums, a big, hairy, purple-headed character. He’s friendly, but could potentially be scary to very sensitive people, especially to those in the front rows. Sit towards the back if this is a concern.
There are some loud noises and explosions in this show. At one point, a cannon fires, and “damages” the building. At the same time, the 3-D movie shows debris flying at the audience. It’s a quick but surprising moment that occasionally can scare sensitive people.
