Overview of Awesome Planet
Narrated by Ty Burrell, who played a real estate agent in ABC’s comedy Modern Family, he tries to sell you planet earth. Ty takes you on a tour of the varied and beautiful biomes on the earth. There’s magnificent footage including wild life, and a pleasant musical score. There are some special effects in the theater including fragrances, wind and mist.
Part way through the film, the negative changes on the earth are shown. This includes increased fires, harsher hurricanes, melting ice caps causing flooding, etc. Ty suggests that we must protect the earth. Those who are sensitive might find this anxiety provoking. It ends on a positive note, saying that we can all make a difference. He shares online information for how you can get involved with conservation efforts.
We consider this to be a relatively minor attraction, but it’s a cool and comfortable theater to take a break in if you need it. It also has a good message that’s worth viewing if you have the time, or if you have a particular interest in the subject.
Queue information for Awesome Planet
When you enter the Land Pavilion building, to the right is a theater. The queue starts just outside the theater. Most of the time, there’s not an actual queue – more a group of people milling around the area who begin to form a queue as it gets closer to show time.
Closer to show time, guests are let in the inner queue area. It is right outside the theater and has mostly standing room with a few benches.
Guests are then let into the theater. It has classic theater seating with stairs to get to the different levels. People of size may find the chairs to be tight.
Wheelchair/ECV, accessibility information for Epcot’s Awesome Planet
Guests using ECVs or wheelchairs will wait in a small, narrow, roped off portion of the queue to the right of the main queue. There are limited numbers of wheelchair/ECV spots available in the theater. Wheelchairs are seated in the back. There are no companion seats in this wheelchair area, but there’s seating in the row just in front of the wheelchair area. One person from your party can stand with the person in the wheelchair.
